Description

Semporna, 100km from the town of Tawau. 27th July 2013. Self-collected, Uninhabited Island about 45 minutes from Semporna Jetty. Green turtles land at this Island to lay their eggs and the only occupants are the guards who protect the turtle eggs. Amazing diversity of stombus species. found at a foot to half a foot of water among sea grass and fine silty sand. The locals eat them among all the other snails they can find. Self-collected shells are guaranteed caught and treated with extremely care, usually if I can help it, if the shells are defective, I will send them back to the sea. I only clean putting the shells in the freezer and after defrosting, painstakingly remove the meat and keep the original operculum with the exact shell. This process takes weeks to months. by not boiling the shell, it will not affect the integrity of the shell, which means it won’t easily fade over time. I only use bleach and painstakingly clean using a scaler. No acid involved. Therefore, I assure you that the shells you get are as is, in the best condition and with the best information I can provide regarding the shells when it was found.
