Occurs throughout the Indo-West Pacific, extending to Japan and New Caledonia. It can grow very large, up to 180mm but typically around 100mm and above 130mm is very uncommon. Also a very heavy solid cone. The closest looking cone is the C. suratensis which also occurs in the same region, however is not so large, narrower shell, sunken spire and finer pattern than betulinus.
