Macrocypraea cervus – Giant! (146.4mm)

By local fisherman, December 2022. Minor stresslines. Lower dorsum slightly rough. The largest cervus in recent times. They don’t get to those extraordinary sizes of 190mm as before and sizes 150mm up are never seen since my starting days of collecting. This is the largest specimen I got and the largest I have seen on the internet since I started internet buying and selling. For me, the largest species of cowrie that is larger than the average of any species is vital and not many cervus nowadays even surpass the largest testudinaria and tigris. This specimen is one of those very rare specimens that when put in your cowrie drawer, will show the glory of the largest living cowries species in the world at 146.4mm, only the world record testudinaria and tigris can surpass this incredible size! Quality is not too bad too for this size, apart from the rough dorsum due to living some of the rotting flesh to sit on the base but I cleaned it up and got it in ok condition.
