The “Rose-Branch Murex” is a muricid very famous for the beauty of its rose-coloured leafy spines that gives it the common name. A very widely distributed species ranging from the Mascarene Basin in Indian Ocean to southern Japan in the Pacific Ocean, this species shows extreme variation in form in different localities. For example. the best known flowery-branched form (as shown here) is found from Sri Lanka to Somalia, whereas the Philippines form has much reduced spines. – adapted from Chong Chen’s post
