Trawled 70m deep in July 2010. Superb dark specimen and good quality for the size. Some very minor defects. Not sure if the record still stands but it is surely one of the biggest in the world. Average for this species that I have sold many is 90~110mm. Very rarely above 120mm and 130mm is absolutely unheard of. I do not think price-tag is excessive as such specimens are for connoisseurs of muricids only and I think it should be worth more than this if I were a murex shell lover. Fortunately for someone out there I am a lover of cones and volutes so I have put a “reasonable” price tag for such a specimen. Once in a lifetime I would think.
