This species superficially looks like combojiensis but it is actually more closer to the atricallosus complex. It is described by Thach as having a stouter shape, presence of white and intermittent spiral band, more swollen whorls and constricted sutures, rapidly tapering spire at early whorls. But in my observation, one main difference is that the pattern in cambojiensis is actually the periostracum when removed, the colour is plain, but the thaitieni has a thin periostracum when removed, the pattern is superficially “cambojiensis-like”.
