This is a Central Indo-Pacific species, found off the Philippines and Northern Australia. Collected by the millions and millions for craft and food. Extremely variable throughout its range and many forms have been described. Sinistral specimens are easier to get than most other volutes as they are heavily collected. Difference from it congeners is that is does not have a smooth protoconch.
