Distributed East coast of Australia, with large distribution from Cape Hillsobrough to Broken Bay (New South Wales). Its classic habitat is intertidal sand flats with running gutters. Some large shells have been trawled at 50m. It differs from other Amoria by a pupiform protoconch, the presents of 14~17 nodules elongated into axial ribs on the first 2 whorls.

The golden form comes from Curtis Island, Flock Pigeon Island and adjacent areas. Albino at found at Great Keppel Bay. The wide line form only appears at Pancake Creek and Island Head Creek. Only can be confused with A. dampieria but the pupiform protoconch is a dead giveaway for the zebra.
