The leafy winged murex with its fragile, fluted wings should come from the pacific, where it was indeed assumed to be when the only known specimen was described in 1822. No more shells turned up for 150 years until it was rediscovered in the Caribbean. Today it is known to come from the Martinique as well.

Specimens are sometime collected in holes in the reef or found buried in sand around the base of large boulders at 10~20m. These murexes are quite rare amd come in beautiful pastel colours. They are seldom white. Typical colour is tan to purplish brown. Perfect specimens are highly prized collectors’ items.
