The Smelly murex was called this name because when discovered, the flesh was very difficult to remove and causing it to rot and smell really bad. As with many murex species, the flesh is very difficult to remove and the operculum sometimes goes deep and difficult to retrieve it. During bleaching, the operculum is usually lost. A beautiful specimen from deep water ranging from India to New Caledonia. Large specimens can exceed 100mm.
