This species occurs throughout the Indo-Pacific in an area ranging from the east coast of Africa to the west coast of Central America. This area excludes the Red Sea and Easter Island. This species is found on intertidal benches and sometimes on subtidal reef platforms. It is found on sand, rock, reef limestone and in coral rubble. It is vermivorous and feeds on errant polychaetes of the families Nereidae and Eunicidae. I have personally collected some myself during the day on rocks at low tide in Lombok, Indonesia.
