Indo-West Pacific, common in shallow water on sand surface between reefs 10~20m. Average 40~80mm, may grow to 100mm. Occasionally with chocolate brown colours with irregular flecks or beige and lighter brown. Tonna chinensis is distinctive with its specific pattern. Tonna cumingii differs in having wider more obvious spiral interspaces and more raised spiral chords.
