Long thought to be a murex occa, but the keen eye of Mr. John Abbas revealed it as a different species and was sent to Roland Houart, an expert on Muricidae and it was confirmed in 2010 to be a new species.

Easily distinguished by its protoconch, more solid shell and spines, which are more numerous and normally smaller size but giants over 70mm are known to exist but are extremely rare for this normally 50mm species. Endemic to Java Island in Indonesia.
